West Bend West Wrestling

Three West wrestlers competed in the State Greco and Freestyle

Championships held in Wisconsin Dells May 5th & 6th.

Jake Fischer finished 5th in Freestyle and 2nd in Greco .

CJ Werner and Drew Rettler gained some valuable experience.

WRESTLING CAMP: Laughing Cool Tongue out

About 4 years ago Coach Bauer started taking the team to the Wisconsin Dells for a team camp.

We believe that the camp has been very instrumental in the team’s success these past few years.

It gives incoming Freshman the opportunity to get to know their new teammates and the rest of

the team to have some fun and learn some new techniques from some of the best wrestlers in the

nation.  This year we have decided to move to the Malicek Team Camp that is connected to the

Chula Vista resort.  We believe that the level of competition will be much better than what was

available at the World Gold Camp and the price is less.  The camp will be held June 25th through

June 28th.  If we get 11 or more wrestlers signed up the cost is $365 per wrestler.  We need to

get a list of names together in the next few weeks.

Please let Pete Rettler know if your son is planning to attend.

 Little Ten Conference

West wrestling shocked nearly everybody but themselves at this year’s Wisconsin Little Ten

Conference Championships.  West finished second to Hartford but outdistanced Slinger and

Oconomowoc by 30 points.  All 14 West wrestlers scored points towards their 2nd place finish.

Drew Rettler finished 5th by pinning his Beaver Dam opponent.  He lost just a few weeks ago

to the same wrestler. Drew went 2-2 on the day.  Tswvyim Lor continued to showcase why he

is a State ranked wrestler.  Tswvyim lost in the championship to his Slinger opponent and was

2-1 for the day.  Armando Manresa wrestled well and finished 4th for the day in a very tough

weight class.  Armando went 2-2.  Lajim Lor finished the day with a pin to finish 7th.  Dante

Gonzalez wrestled well all day and took a 5th.  Dante has improved in every match he wrestles.

Jon Goetz defeated two opponents including Hartford’s Cale Klink in the semi-finals.  Jon lost a

tough match to Eric Lease in the finals.  Jack lost to Ballering by one in the semis and defeated

Chad Strupp for the second time this year to finish 3rd.  Billy bullied his way through the 152

pound weight class and won his first conference championship and West’s only conference

championship.  Kitt Pellegrini had another strong showing and finished 4th.  Nick Gronski finished

3rd in his final conference tournament.  Jake Fischer continued to excel and placed 3rd.  Jordon

Fields earned some valuable team points by placing 7th.  Curtis Neu shocked nearly everyone and

finished 4th on the day, 1 point away from a 3rd place finish.  Tommy Gilbert defeated East in the

preliminary round.  It was great revenge for Tommy who was beaten by the same East wrestler

before Christmas.  Tommy lost in overtime in the finals to a very tough Oconomowoc opponent.

The team is peaking at the right time. Regionals is next!

The top 4 finishers will advance to sectionals.
